Fawad Alam Proves His Point Yet Again - South Africa V Pakistan - Day 2

By Sikander Hayat  Fawad Alam played a masterful innings in the first innings of the first Test match against South Africa in Karachi . He scored 109 runs, played 245 balls and stayed on the wicket for 353 minutes in a mammoth effort to bring Pakistan back into the Test match at Karachi cricket stadium . There were no fans in the stadium to enjoy this innings live but Fawad Alam proved yet again that his exclusion from Pakistan Cricket Team for last ten years was a big mistake and that Pakistan wasted a major talent by pursuing wrong selection policies. Fawad Alam is now 35 years old and can only serve Pakistan like Misbah for another few years if he stays fit and keeps scoring but he has been successful in at least doing one thing and that is to prove that he is an international level talent who should never have been dropped from Pakistan after one series in which he scored a big hundred against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.  Fawad Alam was ably support by Muhammad Rizwan and especial

Is Misbah ul Haq the Greatest Captain of Pakistan Cricket Ever? Even Better Than Imran Khan?

By Sikander Hayat No, he should not retire because Pakistan needs him to perform and until such time when he stops performing or Pakistan starts losing,  Misbah  should captain Pakistan. He is the greatest cricket captain in terms of his own performance and the impact he has on the team in terms of leadership.   Misbah  has given Pakistan stability when team was in the midst of multiple crises and needed a calm hand to steer it away from the abyss. In  Misbah ’s case, age has proved to be just a number and is a template for what an ideal Pakistan captain should look & behave like. People will understand what they have lost only when he will leave the stage and they will miss his  touch. People like Imran Khan were able to succeed in an atmosphere where they were surrounded by great players like Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Salim Malik, Abdul Qadir e.t.c but  Misbah ’s team was full of half-baked players like Akmal brothers. His bowling attacked lac

Is Brazil A Racist Country? Football World Cup Under Shadows?

Lazaro Ramos and Camila Pitanga are two well-known and well-loved Brazilian stars - they played the leading couple in the soap Lado a Lado (Side By Side). And they were expected to play a key role in the World Cup group stage draw on 6 December, in the state of Bahia - the historic heart of African-Brazilian culture. When news emerged that the draw would instead be led by the blond, white couple , Fernanda Lima and Rodrigo Hilbert, there was outrage on blogs, forums and social media  in Brazil. "Fifa, we want Lazaro Ramos and Camila Pitanga, ok? They are our face, our people, and we love them!" was  one tweet . "As if we weren't already self-sufficient when it comes to racism, Fifa comes over to lend us a hand," was  another . US film director Spike Lee even  chimed in  with criticism of Fifa's power over the game. Many demanded an explanation - and in the absence of one, were quick to come to their own conclusions. Pakistan Beats South Africa - Wins Cricket Series 2 - 1

Misbah-ul-Haq  has hailed Pakistan's maiden ODI series win against South Africa as a "really big achievement". Pakistan also became the first subcontinent team to win a series in South Africa when they edged the hosts  by one run  in Port Elizabeth to take an unbeatable 2-0 lead with one game remaining. "It is a really, really big achievement for us, especially for this young team," Misbah said. "They are going to start believing that they can perform well. I think that is what we were lacking in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and lost few games which we should have won. It is a good comeback for the confidence of the team. In the future we can come with better confidence, and winning a first bilateral one-day series in South Africa means something to us." Misbah praised  Saeed Ajmal  and  Junaid Khan  for bringing Pakistan back after  AB de Villiers  and  Hashim Amla  had taken South Africa to a winning position. The hosts needed 36 off 38 deliveries w

England Beats India in 2nd T20

Captain Morgan wins thriller for England Six-hitting from Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler carried England to victory at the death © BCCI Enlarge They don't come as smooth as Captain Morgan. As MS Dhoni and his senior associates debated the field for the final delivery of the chase, off which England needed three to win, Eoin Morgan was calm, had a word with his partner and then waited. Jos Buttler had tried to be cheeky and didn't succeed the previous ball, but Morgan put an end to the game in the only way an expectant crowd sensing victory could have been silenced in disbelief - a deathly blow over the sightscreen when there seemed to be enough room in the field to squeeze a couple and take the game to a Super Over. With a Test series won and a T20 series drawn, England rounded off their first leg of this tour of India on a happy note. The victory was also their highest successful chase in T

Decline and Fall of Yankees

Over the last 18 years, the Yankees were 1731-1163 with five World Series wins and 12 other postseason appearances. But that era of dominance ended in Detroit. (AP) If you are of a certain age, maybe 35 or older, you almost certainly have a powerful memory of Mike Tyson fumbling for his mouthpiece at the end of his fight with Buster Douglas . It remains -- and always will, I suspect -- one of the most compelling things I have ever seen in sports. The reason it was so compelling, I think, is because it was so FINAL. There was no going back after that moment. The past had been broken. The future was uncertain. Mike Tyson was the baddest man in the world before that fight. He wore no robe, he wore black, he unloaded lethal blows at unreasonable speeds. He was so terrifying that boxing champions and former champions and men nicknamed "Bonecrusher" entered the ring trembling. And then, he fought a journeyman named Buster who, for various fascinating

Serbian football's latest embarrassment

Serbia's football team is only six years old, but the on-pitch scuffles and alleged racist chanting at its Under-21 home defeat to England on Tuesday is only its latest embarrassment. In that short period it has attracted an unenviable collection of negative headlines. At the European Under-21 Championship in 2007, officials from the regional governing body Uefa had to address Serbian fans during their team's match against England. They appealed for a halt to racist chants which appeared to be aimed at England defender Nedum Onuoha. Two years ago the senior team's European Championship qualifying match in Italy came to a chaotic end after just seven minutes. Serbian fans had been throwing flares both into the stands and on to the pitch and, fearful for the safety of the players, the referee abandoned the match. Certain fan groups had organised the disruption as a protest against Serbia's goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic. The fo
