He was also briefed about a special selection and recruitment procedure of the PN for inducting Balochi youth in the navy. For this purpose, a Naval Selection and Recruitment Centre has also been established in Gwadar. Apart from recruitments in the sailors’ cadre, quite a number of Balochis are also being inducted as at the officers level. The navy has reintroduced the ‘N-Cadet Scheme’ in Balochistan through which students are admitted to different cadet colleges for a five-year period, and inducted in the navy afterwards.
He was told that the Baloch youth is also being given relaxation in the academic criteria and age limits of recruitment in the navy. Mobile selection teams are also recruiting young men from Gwadar, Turbat, Pasni and Ormara.
Admiral Sandila was also briefed about efforts for promoting educational activities in the province. The Pakistan Navy is providing free education to a large number of students through the various Bahria Model Schools at Gwadar and Ormara. Two projects are currently under construction at Ormara, a school which would provide education upto grade 12 and a multi-million rupee cadet college project. In addition to this, various government schools are being run under the PN patronage, where provision of free books is ensured, apart from the services of qualified teachers.
